Recognized by The Chicago Tribune to be "especially compelling as a singing actor," American Mezzo-Soprano Samantha Attaguile is quickly establishing herself as a spirited young talent in the modern artistic world. In 2017, Samantha appeared as Hannah After in the Chicago premiere of the critically acclaimed opera As One, with Chicago Fringe Opera. Described as "gifted and hugely appealing," Samantha's sensitive portrayal received praise for "handling the stratospheric moments with impressive security" (Chicago Classical Review).
Other performance highlights include Flora (The Enchanted Pig by Jonathan Dove) and Dido (Dido and Aeneas) with Opera Steamboat, Lola (Cavalleria rusticana) with Main Street Opera, Dorabella (Così fan tutte) with Opera in the Ozarks and The Floating Opera Company, Phoebe Meryll (The Yeomen of the Guard) with The Gilbert & Sullivan Opera Company, Kilian (Der Freischütz) and Barbara Ansley (Roman Fever by Robert Ward) with Opera on Tap Chicago, Maddalena (Il viaggio a Reims), Vèronique (Doctor Miracle), Nurse (Strawberry Fields by Michael Torke), and The Abbess (Sister Angelica) with the Chicago College of Performing Arts at Roosevelt University.
A strong advocate of new music, Samantha has had the privilege to collaborate with and perform the music of several contemporary composers including Daniel Felsenfeld, Dana Kaufman, and Elizabeth Rudolph. Samantha sang in the Ensemble for the Chicago premiere of The Final Battle for Love with Thompson Street Opera, and also participated in a workshop of "The Locket Arias" as Lola Montez, a 19th century courtesan, with text by Ruth Margraff and music by Phil Fried.
A performer in every sense of the word, Samantha's experience is not limited to the traditional operatic realm, and she enjoys taking part in a wide array of musical and theatrical projects. Most recently, she joined Forte Chicago, an all-female identifying opera improv/sketch comedy ensemble, and performed in their Fall 2018 show, “Big Entrance.” In previous seasons, Samantha covered the role of Sara Jane Moore in Stephen Sondheim's Assassins with Petite Opera Productions, and for fun and fundraising has participated in Compass Creative Dramatics' adaptations of Alice's Adventures in Wonderland and Peter Pan to raise money for children’s theatre programs. Samantha has also performed in semi-annual concerts with the Colombian folk group, The Mulati Ensemble, and appeared as the mezzo- soprano soloist in Duruflé's Requiem with the DuPage Chorale, as well as with the Southwest Symphony Orchestra singing a concert of Rodgers & Hammerstein classics.
Sam currently resides in Brooklyn with her outrageously supportive husband, Antoni, and feline fur babies, Desdemona and Ophelia.
